The result is a seamless blend of old and new. The heart of the house is the beamed keeping room and dining room with a huge fireplace in the new/old section at the rear. Upstairs is another sitting room with a fireplace and herbs hanging from the beams. Bedrooms on two floors vary in configuration and
style. Five have queen beds and three have one or two double beds. All
are air-conditioned, have private baths and are appointed with period
antiques and stenciling. The Hearts and Flowers Room comes with small
heart wallpaper in the bathroom and a specially made, heart-filled,
stained-glass window. Zelda’s is a two-room suite that’s
delightfully Gatsby. Every room is charming, but the ultimate is the
rear From a twelve-foot stone cooking fireplace in the keeping room comes a variety of breakfast treats. Elaine might offer caramelized pears and an egg frittata or her specialty, apple-baked French toast. Guests are welcomed with sherry and snacks in the afternoon. In cool weather, mulled cider awaits by the crackling fireplaces.
