Bar Harbor/ Here is one of the more luxurious B&Bs to open in Down East Maine in years – a contemporary-style home at the end of its own peninsula, surrounded by the waters of Bass Harbor’s back cove on the island's Quiet Side.. Lesley and Phil DiVirgilio pamper guests in four large and modern bed rooms, each with kingsize bed, TV, telephone, CD player and updated bath, all with glass showers and one with a whirlpool tub. But it’s not so much the accommodations – comfortable as they are – that commend the place. It’s the setting, a stone’s throw from the ocean on a two-acre property with nearly 700 feet of shoreline. And the amenities: a 32-foot indoor pool, a six-person spa, a six-person Finnish sauna. The spa in its name comes from these features, plus the in-room massages and therapy offerings available upon request. The DiVirgilios downsized for this venture after running for five years the Holbrook House, a twelve-room Victorian B&B in the heart of Bar Harbor – a proving ground that also launched Jack and Jeani Ochtera on the road to their plush Inn at Bay Ledge. Phil and Lesley, who retains the accent of her native England, offer wine and cheese in the afternoon, and cookies and a glass of milk at nightly turndown. Morning brings a multi-course breakfast, and for
long-term guests, Lesley never repeats a meal. It typically starts with
her homemade granola and cranberry muffins or banana bread. Next comes
what Phil calls “a dessert dish” – perhaps an apple crumble. The
main course varies daily between sweet and savory, perhaps
blueberry-stuffed french toast or Mexican eggs over tortillas, belgian
waffles or eggs benedict. Four rooms with private baths. Doubles, $280 to
$295 late June through mid-October, $150 to $225 rest of year. E-mail: info@annspointinn.com For more information: www.annspointinn.com.
