Bar Harbor/ Towering linden trees shade this turn-of-the-century sea captain’s home, now grandly refurbished by Australian owner Jim King. Jim, who had opened the Kingsleigh Inn here, returned from traveling around the world in 1993 to purchase the Lindenwood, which had fallen on lean times. He quickly imbued the house with his eclectic
decorating touch, setting palm trees on the wraparound porch, splashing
vivid colors on the walls and spattering collections of shells and
stones in the bedrooms. “We don’t have The two parlors are contemporary, accented with green and white striped upholstered chairs. Potted plants throughout the main floor bring the outdoors inside. The eight guest accommodations, all with TV and several with fireplaces, vary in size. Check out Room 6 with its six-foot-long clawfoot tub. It’s one of six rooms with private decks or balconies affording views of the harbor. The ultimate is the queen-bedded penthouse suite with a curved sofa and gas fireplace, opening onto an enormous rooftop deck holding an oversize spa. Outside at the side, screened by a trellis from the street, is a heated gunite pool and a separate spa topped by a sculptured mask spraying a stream of water. We basked in the lap of luxury in the pool-side cottage with a gas fireplace in the cathedral-ceilinged living room, an efficiency kitchen and a queensize bedroom. For breakfast in one of the dining rooms, we helped ourselves to fresh fruit and raspberry-banana muffins from the buffet and were served a main dish of fruit crêpes. Other days might produce stratas, omelets or stuffed french toast. Four rooms, three suites and one cottage with
