Mid-Coast Maine This started as a restaurant in a log cabin, but you’d never know it following its 1996 upgrade. Downsizing and ultimately closing (to the public) their popular restaurant to add lodging, Sue and Neal Favreau offer nine comfortable accommodations, each with its own deck upon which to savor the water views. We liked the looks of the bright and airy second-floor York Room with queen bed, TV and telephone, kitchenette, jacuzzi tub and separate shower. The Mount Washington suite atop a former garage comes with a full kitchen, separate kingsize bedroom, two TVs, stereo and a deck with a private hot tub, from which you can see New England’s tallest peak 90 miles away on a clear day. The new Harpswell suite also has an upstairs kingsize bedroom with private balcony and bath with jacuzzi tub, living room with gas stove, kitchen and private hot tub on the lower-level deck. Along with the TV/VCR standard in all rooms, the Sunset and Westview rooms offer gas fireplaces as well as jacuzzi tubs and queensize beds. In preparation for closing the restaurant to the public and concentrating on lodging and meals for house guests, the Log Cabin added a great new swimming pool. Dinner is available for inn guests in a cozy, lodge-like room with a moosehead above the fireplace, in an intimate front bar and on enclosed porches with water views. Sue, who has been in the restaurant business since she was 13 and originally ran the late Rock Ovens nearby, oversees the kitchen with her son Matt and his wife Aimee. A typical menu includes lobster, filet mignon, a chicken dish and two or three special appetizers, entrées and desserts. Guests enjoy a complimentary breakfast of eggs or french toast with meats and home fries. (207) 833-5546. Fax (207) 833-7858.
