The Oxford House Inn
548 Main St.
Fryeburg, ME 04009

Known primarily for its outstanding food, this inn run by John and Phyllis Morris also offers four guest rooms with private baths. They're located upstairs in an attractive, pale yellow and green country house fronted with a wraparound piazza.

One front corner room has a bow window and a queen and a double bed. The large Porch suite has a kingsize bed, an extra futon and an enclosed porch for a sitting area. Another with a comfy sitting area is large enough for a kingsize bed and an extra twin. The rear Sewing Room features an antique sewing table and sewing notions along with a queen bed. All rooms are furnished with period furniture and antiques and come with TV and air conditioning..

Guests share a parlor with waiting dinner patrons, but can retire as well to the large Granite Room Lounge downstairs pub with four small tables and a sitting area with a wood stove and a large TV. The wicker-filled wraparound porch is great for relaxing, and the back yard opens onto a super view of the Presidential Range.

The Morrises serve a complete breakfast. Eggs benedict, grand marnier french toast, berry pancakes and french toast with cream cheese and marmalade or raspberry jam are among the possibilities.

Four rooms with private baths. Doubles, $95 to $135.
