Salem
The Salem Inn
7 Summer St.
Salem, MA 01970

At the western edge of downtown in the elegant McIntire Historic District, this inn began in a handsome, four-story brick Federal structure consisting of three attached townhouses built in 1834 by sea captain Nathaniel West and has expanded into two other historic buildings over the years.

Owners Richard and Diane Pabich offer a comfortable common living room with a fireplace and 23 accommodations in a range of sizes and styles in the West House. Most beds are king or queensize, but quarters vary, from spacious rooms with fireplaces (some with jacuzzi tubs) to top-floor family suites (no elevator) with kitchenettes to small rooms with private hall baths. Furnishings are antique or reproductions, and televisions and telephones are standard.

Around the corner is the Curwen House, a wood-frame, three-story Italianate Revival building dating to 1854. Among its eleven romantic rooms with queen beds are three honeymoon suites with canopy beds, working fireplaces and double whirlpool tubs.

Two rooms and four family and two luxury suites with fireplaces and whirlpool tubs are available in the Peabody House, a three-story Colonial structure built in 1874.

A complimentary light breakfast is offered in the brick breakfast room on the lower level of the main West House or outside on a brick patio.
