The Noble House
113 West Market St.
Marietta, PA 17547

This restored 1810 brick Federal-style home up against the street in the heart of Marietta is decorated to the hilt, reflecting the interests, talents and personalities of ex-New Yorkers Elissa and Paul Noble. Some of the furnishings and collections are museum-quality, as are the model trains and showy gardens.

The living room is lavishly decorated in formal Victorian style and showcases dolls, china and crystal beneath twelve-foot-high ceilings. A freestanding antique linen closet with three shelves lit by tiny white lights displays Elissa’s teacup collection.

The Nobles offer two rooms, a suite and a bungalow, each with fireplace, TV/VCR, telephone and mini-refrigerator. Interestingly, the rooms are more deluxe and command higher prices than the suite or the bungalow

Upstairs, the aptly named Grand Room has a kingsize bed and mahogany furniture. The dramatic Japanese-looking bath contains a large dressing area and a soaking tub for two. Golden tones and accessories reflect the name of the Gold Suite, which offers a queen brass four-poster bed and a connecting garden room with a white velvet sofabed amid an array of tropical plants. Its small bath with a shower was fashioned from two closets.

The most unusual accommodation is the main-floor Peake’s Parlor, a railroad-themed room reflecting Paul’s lifelong love of trains. The private entrance leads past what appears to be the rear of a 1950s Pullman car and opens into a simulated railroad car glistening with glass and polished brass. It offers a recessed queen bed beneath a shelf that looks a bit like an upper berth, a Pullman parlor-style lounge area and an un-train-like bath with two-person soaking tub and shower.

Elissa serves breakfast on fine crystal and china in the candlelit dining room. Scrambled eggs with bacon and home fries or french toast with ham could be the main course.

Paul has filled an entire room on the walkout lower garden level with his elaborate working model railroad. Interested guests get to help him “run” the railroad. That is, when they are not relaxing on the romantic swing for two in the showplace back yard walled garden full of manicured plantings, statuary, a waterfall and fountain.

Next door, the Nobles offer a rustic bungalow with bedroom, fireplace and a kitchen for serve-yourself breakfast.
