Beaver Pond Farm
Bed & Breakfast

1225 Golf Course Road
Warren, Vt. 05674

A farmhouse this may be, but an elegant one it is indeed. Located off a quiet country road, the light green house with green roof overlooks a beaver pond, the Sugarbush Golf Club and rolling hillsides.

Longtime owners Betty and Bob Hansen sold to Nancy and Bob Baron from Chicago, who reopened the B&B in December 2003 after renovating the attached barn for living quarters for their young family and redecorating the guest rooms that had been closed for a few years.

Moving here for a lifestyle change, the Barons share their gorgeous property and home with guests, who enjoy a stylish living room with fireplace, a beamed dining room with a long harvest table on an oriental rug and a small library. A small bar allows guests to help themselves to complimentary coffees and teas, as well as soft drinks, beer and wine for an additional charge. Best of all, perhaps, is a fabulous rear deck that runs the length of the house, where guests like to watch the beaver in the pond.

Upstairs, reached by two separate staircases, are four guest rooms with king or queen beds dressed with fine linens and down comforters. The large and cheery yellow Laurel Room has a kingsize four-poster bed and a daybed with a trundle bed beneath for an extra person or two. A fifth room with queensize bed, adjoining the rear deck on the main floor, was being readied for occupancy in 2005.

All rooms are furnished with period antiques, reproduction furniture and oriental rugs. They come with comfy spa robes (for use in the new hot tub on the outdoor deck), hair dryers and clock radio/CD players. Each is equipped for high-speed internet access, TV and DVD player.

Nancy, who attended culinary school in Chicago, was following in the footsteps of her predecessor, whom fellow innkeepers considered the best cook in the valley. Guests find breakfast to be a highlight of the day. It begins with seasonal fruits, homemade granola with local yogurt, and fresh sweet breads, muffins or scones. The main course could be quiche, a goat cheese and prosciutto frittata or upside-down apricot french toast and apple-maple syrup.

The Barons welcome guests in the afternoon with homemade cookies, Vermont cheese and crackers, finger sandwiches or hot chili and a specially prepared beverage.

Five rooms with private baths. Doubles, $115 to $185.
